Happy Paws Pet Services Happy Paws is owned and operated by James and Sandra Webster of Chelsea, Alabama. Our love of animals and our concern for their safety and well-being has been a focal point of most of our adult lives, especially now that our son is a young man following and living his dream of flying.
Our pet family consists of 5 dogs that bring much joy to our lives with each of their distinctive and loving personalities. Buddy, Buster, Jake, Mia and Ruby have each stolen our hearts and we never regret opening our arms and home to provide them a quality of life they might not otherwise have. Each has been adopted at different times during the past few years and we cannot imagine our lives without them.
We know it is stressful leaving a pet at home for both you and your furry family member. It is our mission to extend our love of animals to helping other pet owners by providing professional, loving care for their pets when their busy schedules and obligations require them to be away from home or when you just need a helping hand with the care of your pet. James is a Meisterfeld Psychological Dog Trainer Consultant (MPDTC) and firmly believes in C.W. Meisterfeld's philosophy, which is based on mutual respect as in the Golden Rule. This philosophy not only works on canines, it also works on people. James used this philosophy to stop a 25-year, 1-2 packs a day cigarette habit cold turkey. It has helped him to break old behavior patterns and has shown him that we all have a free will and the correct thoughts can be used to build new behavior patterns.
This philosophy works especially well for training dogs because of their innate willingness to serve. Their mind capacity is that of a three to five year old child and that means they can learn through communication. They can be taught what words mean, what their territorial boundaries are and what they can do through verbal language and hand signals. Most information is communicated via body language. When violence and/or dominance are used for training, the link between the canine and man is broken. The key to this philosophy is to get the innate willingness to serve activated. Once that is triggered, you can change behavior with communication. To get canines willingness to serve activated, is to treat him like a dog. By doing this, you are actually respecting him because a dog can’t handle the emotional baggage we humans carry around with us. The dog can’t cope with thinking he is better than you or equal to you. It is your job to be his master. If you are not in control, he will be forced to take over and to express himself. To stay in control and to express his dominance, he bites. It is normal for the dog to think, “What does he want me to do. Please tell me.”
James is available to help with your dog training needs based on Meisterfeld's mutual respect philosophy. We are experienced in caring for dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, birds and more. We can work with challenging pets and can assist with behavior problems and nursing ill pets back to health. We are committed to improving our education and skills in animal behavior, training, animal health, and first aid through classes and other educational means available to us.
